Benralizumab for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Benralizumab is currently in clinical development for the treatment of moderate to very severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in patients with a history of exacerbations. COPD
is a group of progressive lung conditions, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, that cause restricted airflow and breathing difficulties. Symptoms include difficult breathing, cough, sputum, frequent chest infections, and persistent wheezing. Patients also experience exacerbations, which are associated with an irreversible loss of lung function. Current treatments aim to reduce symptoms, treat exacerbations and slow the progression of disease. However, many patients with COPD still experience frequent symptoms and exacerbations, with associated morbidity.
