Zongertinib for previously untreated HER2-positive non-small-cell lung cancer

Zongertinib is in clinical development for the treatment of previously untreated, unresectable, locally advanced, or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) genetic mutations. Lung cancer causes abnormal cells to grow in an uncontrolled way in the lungs. NSCLC is the most common form of lung cancer. Unresectable cancer is cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. Cancer becomes metastatic when it has spread to distant organs or lymph nodes. Symptoms of lung cancer can include a persistent cough, coughing up blood, and breathlessness. Smoking and exposure to certain chemicals increases the risk of having lung cancer. There are currently no licensed HER2-specific options for the initial treatment of advanced or metastatic NSCLC.
