Veligrotug for thyroid eye disease (TED)

Veligrotug is currently in development for the treatment of thyroid eye disease in adults. Thyroid eye disease (also known as Graves’ eye disease) is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the body’s immune system attacks the tissue surrounding the eye, causing the eye muscles, eyelids, tear glands and fatty tissues behind the eye to become inflamed. The severity of the disease varies and usually involves both eyes. Early signs and symptoms include swelling or puffiness and redness of the eyelids. Some of the risk factors for thyroid eye disease include smoking, female gender and older age. Current treatment options available to patients with thyroid eye disease are aimed at managing symptoms rather than treating the underlying cause of the disease. Hence, there is a need for targeted therapies, such as therapies that block specific proteins involved in the disease
