Sugemalimab for locally advanced or unresectable non-small-cell lung cancer

Sugemalimab is being developed as a treatment for people with stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the most common type of lung cancer. At this stage, the cancer has spread within the chest to nearby lymph nodes or tissues but not to other parts of the body. Many people are diagnosed at this advanced stage, when treatment options are limited. Lung cancer often develops without obvious signs at first, but symptoms may include a persistent cough, chest infections, coughing up blood, breathlessness, chest pain and tiredness. Smoking is the main cause, although exposure to pollution and some chemicals can also increase risk. Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK and the leading cause of cancer deaths, so there is a need for more effective treatments in stage III disease.
