Sevabertinib for previously untreated advanced non-small cell lung cancer with HER2-activating mutations

Sevabertinib is in clinical development for previously untreated advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) mutations. Lung cancer causes abnormal cells to grow in an uncontrolled way in the lungs. NSCLC is the most common form of lung cancer. Cancer becomes advanced or metastatic when it has spread to distant organs or lymph nodes. HER2 is a protein involved in normal cell growth, but when overexpressed, can cause cancer cells to grow more quickly and spread to other parts of the body. Symptoms of lung cancer can include a persistent cough, coughing up blood and breathlessness. Smoking and exposure to certain chemicals increases the risk of developing lung cancer. There are currently no approved HER2-specific therapies for the initial treatment of advanced or metastatic NSCLC.
