Selinexor maintenance therapy for advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer after systemic therapy

Selinexor is being developed as a maintenance therapy after chemotherapy for patients with p53 wild-type (wt), advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. Endometrial cancer is cancer of the lining of the womb. p53 is a protein that suppresses tumours by preventing cells with damaged DNA from multiplying and is made by the TP53 gene. p53wt means that the TP53 gene has not undergone mutations (changes) so is functioning normally. Advanced endometrial cancer is when cancer cells have spread from the womb to other parts of the body; recurrent cancer means the cancer has come back after initially responding to treatment. Physical symptoms of endometrial cancer include bleeding, pain, discomfort, reduced appetite, nausea and fatigue. There are currently no approved treatments for endometrial cancer that specifically targets p53wt tumours. Therefore, there remains a need for additional treatment options for this patient population.
