Ravulizumab for preventing cardiac surgery associated acute kidney injury in adults with chronic kidney disease

Ravulizumab is in clinical development for the prevention of cardiac surgery associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is a long-term condition where the kidneys do not work as well as they should. It is a common condition often associated with getting older and can affect anyone. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is where the kidneys suddenly stop working properly. It can range from minor loss of kidney function to complete kidney failure. AKI presents a significant challenge in the management of critically ill patients; it complicates recovery from cardiac surgery in patients and is associated with an incidence of CKD and increases the risk of death during hospitalisation.
