Povorcitinib for treating of prurigo nodularis

Povorcitinib is being developed as a treatment for itch and skin lesions in patients with prurigo nodularis (PN). PN is a chronic skin condition in which patients have firm, raised bumps on the skin known as nodules. These nodules are very itchy, and scratching can cause the condition to worsen. The exact cause of PN is unknown, but altered function of the immune system and nerves in the skin is believed to be associated with sensations of itchiness that leads to frequent scratching. PN is associated with impaired sleep, psychological distress and a significant disruption in quality of life. Current treatments for PN have varied effectiveness and can cause severe side effects. Therefore, there is a need for new treatments.
