Pelabresib with ruxolitinib for previously treated and untreated myelofibrosis

Pelabresib in combination with ruxolitinib is being developed for the treatment of myelofibrosis in adults. Myelofibrosis is a rare type of blood cancer in which scar-like (fibrous) tissue forms in the bone marrow (the spongy tissue inside the large bones where blood cells are produced), interfering with normal blood cell production. Symptoms of myelofibrosis include bone pain, tiredness, weakness, weight loss, fever and bleeding. The exact cause of myelofibrosis is unknown. Treatment with Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors alone have been the standard of care for treating myelofibrosis. However, some patients lose response to this medicine over time. Patients also discontinue the use of JAK inhibitors due to side effects. Therefore, an unmet need exists for additional treatment options for myelofibrosis.
