Nogapendekin alfa inbakicept for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer

Nogapendekin alfa inbakicept is in clinical development for treatment of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) unresponsive, high grade, non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). BCG is an immunotherapy drug, which causes the body’s immune system to fight cancer cells and is one of the main treatments of NMIBC. NMIBC is bladder cancer which has not spread beyond the lining of the bladder. High grade NMIBC is more likely to return following treatment or spread to other areas in the body. Most cases of bladder cancer appear to be caused by exposure to harmful substances, and smoking tobacco is also an important risk factor. The most common symptom of bladder cancer is blood in the urine. Many patients will experience a relapse of their cancer after treatment with BCG, often meaning they may need to have surgery to remove the bladder.
