Niraparib for treating newly diagnosed MGMT unmethylated glioblastoma

Niraparib is being developed to treat newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme (GBM; a type of brain tumour) that is O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) unmethylated (the MGMT gene which normally helps repair DNA in switched on, making the cancer cells more able to fix the damage caused by chemotherapy, so treatment is less likely to work). GBM is the most common type of brain tumour in adults and are fast growing and cancerous with a proof prognosis. GBM is associated with worse health-related quality of life and is more challenging treat than other brain tumours. MGMT unmethylated patients represent the GBM population with the highest unmet medical need. There is therefore a need for effective treatment options for this population.
