ND0612 for Parkinson’s disease

ND0612 is being developed as a treatment for Parkinson’s disease (PD). PD is a progressive condition caused by the loss of nerve cells in a part of the brain called the substantia nigra. This leads to a reduction in dopamine, a chemical that helps regulate movement. There is currently no cure, but there are treatments to reduce symptoms and maintain quality of life. Motor fluctuations are times when PD symptoms come and go as doses of medication wear off throughout the day, also referred to as ‘off’ periods. Typically, people with PD take a medication called levodopa to treat their symptoms by mouth, but this can lead to ups and downs in how well the medication works. This is partly because PD can cause stomach problems, making it harder for the medicine to be absorbed properly. When this happens, the medication may not reach the brain in the right amounts.
