Luspatercept for treating myelofibrosis related anaemia

Luspatercept is being developed as a treatment for adults with myelofibrosis who also have anaemia. Myelofibrosis is a rare type of blood cancer where scar tissue builds up in the bone marrow. This prevents the bone marrow from making enough healthy blood cells. This can result in anaemia, which occurs when there are not enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body. Anaemia is common in patients with myelofibrosis and can cause symptoms such as tiredness, weakness, and shortness of breath. Many patients require frequent blood transfusions as a result. Current treatments for anaemia in myelofibrosis are limited and can have side effects, so there is an unmet need for safer and more effective options.
