Lotilaner ophthalmic solution for demodex blepharitis

Lotilaner ophthalmic solution is currently in clinical development for the treatment of demodex blepharitis (DB). DB is an eyelid disease caused by an infestation of Demodex mites, a common mite found on humans. Mites living on the skin help keep it clean, but an overgrowth of mites around the eyelids can cause DB. DB is a long-lasting condition characterised by swollen eyelid margins (edge of the eyelid). It causes redness, irritation and discomfort in the eyes, along with crusting on the eyelids and eyelashes. Symptoms include itching, dryness, discharge, redness, burning, tearing, a foreign-body sensation, pain, and blurred vision. There are currently no established treatments or guidelines for the management of DB, highlighting a treatment gap.
