Lemborexant for treating insomnia

Lemborexant is in development for treatment of insomnia. Insomnia is difficulty getting to sleep or not staying asleep for long enough to feel refreshed the next morning. It is a common problem thought to regularly affect around one in every three people in the UK and is particularly common in older adults. Insomnia can cause negative impacts on a wide range of daytime functions, affecting social, emotional, and physical aspects of -people’s lives; chronic (long-term) insomnia affects mental and physical functioning. Risk factors for developing insomnia include underlying health conditions, worry and stress, and drug or alcohol use. Current treatment options for insomnia can increase the risk of falls and next-morning residual effects and associated with dependence and withdrawal symptoms.
