Laroprovstat for managing hyperlipidaemia and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or risk of a first atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease event

Laroprovstat is in clinical development for the management of patients with hyperlipidaemia and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) or at risk for a first ASCVD event. High levels of cholesterol in the blood (hypercholesterolaemia) may be caused by genetic defects (as seen in familial (inherited) hypercholesterolaemia) or when genes and other factors such as lifestyle habits interact, as seen in non-familial hypercholesterolaemia. With hypercholesterolaemia, the liver is less able to remove excess ‘bad’ cholesterol, known as low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). This means the LDL-C level in the blood can get too high, increasing the risk of cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) disease.
