Isatuximab with carfilzomib, lenalidomide and dexamethasone for treating newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in patients eligible for autologous stem cell transplant

Isatuximab in combination with carfilzomib, lenalidomide and dexamethasone is currently in clinical development for the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM) who are eligible for autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT). MM is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells; a type of white blood cell made in the bone marrow. Myeloma develops when the DNA is damaged during the development of a plasma cell. The abnormal cell then starts to multiply and spread within the bone marrow. The most common symptoms of myeloma include bone pain, recurring infection, kidney damage and fatigue. Treatment for myeloma can be effective at disease control, relieving symptoms and complications, and prolonging life. Unfortunately, myeloma is currently an incurable cancer.
