Ibrutinib with immunochemotherapy for previously untreated mantle cell lymphoma

Ibrutinib in combination with immunochemotherapy (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone) is currently in development for the treatment of previously
untreated mantle cell lymphoma in adults who are eligible for stem cell (self-renewing cells) transplant using the patient’s own cells. Mantle cell lymphoma is a rare type of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer which develops when a type of white blood cells (B-cells) becomes abnormal (cancerous). Mantle cell lymphoma is one of the most challenging blood
cancers, owing to an aggressive disease course and a high rate of relapse. Relapse is the return of a disease after a period of improvement. Mantle cell lymphoma remains a difficult disease to treat with many patients relapsing or becoming resistant to therapy, and there is a need for more effective targeted therapies to improve patient outcomes.
