Fenfluramine as an add-on therapy for cyclin-dependent kinase like-5 deficiency disorder

Fenfluramine is being developed as an add-on treatment of seizures associated with cyclin‐dependent kinase‐like 5 deficiency disorder. Cyclin‐dependent kinase‐like 5 deficiency disorder is a rare condition caused by a genetic mutation with a broad range of symptoms apparent from early childhood, including epileptic seizures that do not respond to medication and severe delays in development. It is caused by mutations in the cyclin‐dependent kinase‐like 5 gene (X-chromosome) which provides instructions for making the protein called cyclin‐dependent kinase‐like 5, leading to fewer proteins for brain and neurone development.
