Fenebrutinib for treating primary progressive multiple sclerosis

Fenebrutinib is in clinical development for the treatment for primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS). PPMS is a form of multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the myelin sheath, a protective layer around nerves in the brain and the spinal cord, which make up the central nervous system (CNS). This damage prevents messages travelling from the CNS to other parts of the body and vice versa. It can produce a variety of symptoms such as blurred vision, limb weakness, and memory problems. PPMS is a type of MS where symptoms get worse over time. Progressive damage to affected cells in the nervous system leads to irreversible loss of function of affected nerves, resulting in permanent symptoms and signs, hence the need for effective therapies to reduce disease activity and disability progression.
