Enlicitide decanoate for treating hyperlipidaemia

Enlicitide decanoate is in clinical development for the treatment of hyperlipidaemia in adults. Hyperlipidaemia is a condition in which low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (or “bad” cholesterol) in the body is too high. This causes fat to collect in the arteries (atherosclerosis), putting patients with hyperlipidaemia at higher risk of heart attack and stroke. Risk factors for developing hyperlipidaemia include a sedentary lifestyle, and a diet characterised by the excessive consumption of saturated fats, trans-fatty acids, and cholesterol. In most cases, hypercholesterolemia does not cause symptoms. Some people may not even know they have it until they have a heart attack, stroke, or another serious complication. Current treatment options for hyperlipidaemia are ineffective in some patients, and some are associated with poor treatment adherence and intolerable side effects.
