Elinzanetant for treating vasomotor symptoms caused by adjuvant endocrine therapy in women with hormone-receptor positive breast cancer

Elinzanetant is in development for treating vasomotor symptoms (VMS, hot flushes) caused by adjuvant endocrine therapy in women with hormone-receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer. VMS are very common medical problems in women with HR+ breast cancer, who are receiving anticancer therapy. However, they negatively affect the quality of life of many women and may lead to discontinuation of this therapy. VMS are characterised by hot flushes and night sweats caused by a loss of body temperature control due to a decrease in oestrogen levels. Hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk of progression or recurrence of existing breast cancer. Therefore, there is a need for effective nonhormonal therapy for VMS related to breast cancer treatment.
