Doravirine-islatravir for managing HIV-1 infection in virologically supressed patients

Doravirine-islatravir is in clinical development for the management of patients with human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) who have a low level of HIV in their body, known as virological suppression, after receiving the combination of bictegravir, emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide. HIV-1 is a virus that attacks the cells of the immune system. Damage to the immune system caused by HIV-1 can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which is a chronic and potentially life-threatening condition. Symptoms of AIDS can include weight loss, chronic diarrhoea, night sweats, fever, persistent cough, mouth and skin problems, regular infections and serious illness or disease. Some people may also develop resistance to certain antiretroviral therapies, leading to disease progression.
