Denosumab biosimilar for preventing skeletal-related events in advanced malignancies involving bone and treating giant cell tumours of bone

Denosumab biosimilar is in development to prevent skeletal-related events in adults with advanced malignancies involving bone, and to treat adults and skeletally mature adolescents with giant cell tumour of bone that cannot be removed surgically or where this would cause severe morbidity. Advanced malignancies means that cancer cells have metastasised (spread) from their original site. Almost any cancer can metastasise to bone, but it is more common in breast, prostate, lung, bladder, thyroid and kidney cancers. Patients with bone metastases are at increased risk of complications called skeletal-related events. Giant cell tumours of bone are benign (non-cancerous) growths which develop in bones, most often around the knee and forearm. However, these tumours can cause the bone to dissolve, which can result in fracture or joint damage. Current treatments involve a therapy known as a biologic (drugs made from living things); however, these are expensive.
