Belzutifan with pembrolizumab and lenvatinib for previously untreated advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma

Belzutifan in combination with pembrolizumab and lenvatinib is in clinical development for the first-line treatment of advanced clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) in adults. ccRCC is the
most common type of kidney cancer that develops in the cells lining the tubes that help the kidney filter blood and make urine. It is called as such because the cancer cells appear clear when viewed under a microscope. Advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) refers to kidney cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Most patients with RCC are usually asymptomatic in the early stage, but symptoms appear as the cancer progresses, which includes blood in the urine, anaemia (not enough healthy red blood cells), flank pain, weight loss and fatigue. Some risk factors for
developing RCC include obesity, family history, smoking, high blood pressure or certain inherited genetic conditions. Despite advances in treatment options with combination therapy, advanced ccRCC remains difficult to treat.
