Belzutifan for the treatment of advanced pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma

Belzutifan is currently in development for the treatment of advanced pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma. Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma are rare tumours that form in and around the adrenal glands and in advanced disease they may have spread further around the body. The main symptoms of pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma is severe, and variable hypertension with target tissue damage such as an abnormal thickening of the heart muscle or an abnormal stretching and weakening of the heart muscle (dilated cardiomyopathy), potentially leading to fatal cardiac events, abnormal heartbeat, heart attack, heart failure and chronic lung disease. Patients with advanced pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma have limited therapeutic options.
