Atrasentan for IgA nephropathy in adults

Atrasentan is in clinical development for treating IgA nephropathy in adults. IgA nephropathy is a chronic condition which causes small structures within the kidney to be blocked by part of the body’s immune system, known as IgA antibodies. This can cause swelling and scarring, damaging the kidneys and lead to symptoms such as blood to appear in the urine, as well as high blood pressure and protein leaking into the urine. A recent study has suggested that most patients with IgA nephropathy progressed to kidney failure within 10 to 15 years of their diagnosis. Currently, there are limited treatment options available for people with IgA nephropathy.
