Atogepant is in clinical development for the acute treatment of migraines. Acute treatments provide immediate but short-term relief. Migraines are moderate to severe headaches that cause throbbing pain in the head, as well as increased sensitivity to light, sound and odours. There are many triggers for a migraine including psychological triggers like anxiety and depression, lifestyle factors such as lack of exercise or imbalanced diet, as well as biological factors such as menstruation or genetics. Some migraines occur after a person experiences ‘aura’. Aura acts as a warning sign for a migraine attack and symptoms can include temporary visual, sensory or motor disturbances.
