Methods for considering equality and equity implications in horizon scanning for medicines and healthcare innovations: a scoping review

This scoping review explored how equality and equity considerations are incorporated into horizon scanning for emerging health technologies. We found that current approaches are inconsistent and often overlook factors affecting marginalised and clinically complex populations, such as acceptability, polypharmacy, and multiple long-term conditions. The findings underscore the urgent need for robust frameworks that can identify structural barriers early, ensuring innovations do not inadvertently exacerbate health inequities.
