The event opened with an insightful talk by Professor Andrew Booth (University of Sheffield), who outlined the importance of research methodology in healthcare and the benefits of pursuing a doctorate in this field. Next up was Professor Judith Rankin (Newcastle University) who provided an in-depth overview of the NIHR Doctoral Programme, highlighting funding opportunities, key requirements, and the impact of NIHR-supported research on healthcare advancements.

An exhibition of key support organisations hosted stalls giving attendees the opportunity to chat about accessing support as they prepare their application, including Research Support Service Hub at Newcastle University, Newcastle Health Research Partnership, VOICE, NIHR Innovation Observatory and Methodology Incubator.
Graphic recorder, John Cooper of Rocket Steps captured key messages from the day, generating visuals to act as shareable outputs and aid memoirs. The activity created a buzz around the audience helping attendees feel energised and enthused throughout.
