Understanding the Scope, Intent and Extent of Published Conceptual Frameworks of Frameworks for Patient and Public Involvement in Health and Social Care Research: A Rapid Scoping Review

In this rapid scoping review, we set out to identify and explore the purpose and features of conceptual frameworks that could be used to help people involve patients and the public in health and social care research.

This rapid scoping review searched for frameworks that could help underpin PPI in health and social care research from 2013 to August 2024. In all, we found 53 frameworks and we looked to see how much detail they provided on aspects such as recruitment, how to apply the different domains of the UK Standards for Public Involvement and how equality and diversity could be considered. We also provided recommendations for future research in the area.

The work also helped to underpin the development of the Rapid Involvement of Patients and the PubLic in Evidence Synthesis (RIPPLES) framework.
